Although it might seem like common sense, you should always do your research about the country where you will be studying. The language, culture and overall expenses are all important factors to take into consideration before you board a plane for your exchange student experience.

Learn the Language

While this too might seem like common sense, you should learn as much of the language of your host country before leaving home. Even if you think you’re already well-versed in the country’s language, pack in some additional study time just to be on the safe side. If you have a chance to talk with a native in his vernacular, make the most of it. Slang and diction differences across regions of the country can be challenges once you arrive. And don’t limit yourself to spoken language; you should also learn how to write properly in the foreign language for both educational and social purposes.

Connect with Your Host Family

If you’re staying with a host family, reach out to them well before your scheduled arrival. Study enough about the country’s culture that you’re able to approach them on appropriate terms, and can begin to build the foundation of your relationship before you depart home base. Your host family will probably very curious to learn about you; emails, phone calls or Skype video chat sessions can help you learn more about each other. The more information you can give your host family, the smoother things will go.

Be Safe

Before leaving, be sure you’re familiar with the customs and expectations in your host country. You should never risk breaking any laws, as court systems around the world operate quite differently from those you’re more familiar with back home. Get all the contact information for the nearest embassy in case of emergencies. You should also check your health insurance to see what kind of coverage is offered while you’re abroad; you may need to purchase supplemental international student health insurance. Be aware of the nature and common practices of the health systems where you’ll be staying, so that you can be proactive about your health. You don’t want to be caught in an emergency and feel uninformed about treatment options or procedures. Order prescriptions before you leave home, if possible, so that you don’t risk running out.

Ask Questions

Finally, don’t be afraid to ask lots of questions. You should not only ask plenty before you leave your home country, but also while traveling and after your arrival. The more contacts you make on your journey, the more well-rounded your experience as an exchange student will be. Most people are friendly and happy to help, as long as you’re friendly in return. The more open you are to new experiences and learning new things, the better your exchange program will go for you.

It would take a couple of months to gather all of the most recent articles regarding the integration of technology in modern classrooms. However, one of the most interesting and significant articles I’ve come across is a piece regarding online education by Christopher Tuffley. The piece was centered on a new law passed by Florida legislature, which requires all ninth graders to pass at least one online course in order to graduate from high school in 2015. According to the article, this law was driven by an understanding of the ever-increasing need for technology proficiency in the professional sphere.

Parents who grew up in a pre-digital world may struggle with adapting to today’s high-tech trends. Although it may be initially confusing, it’s important for parents to gain a better understanding not just to facilitate your professional development, but to fulfill your duties as a parent as well. Advanced communication and mentoring skills are other qualities that come easily to nurse educators.  They are often looked up to by their students and need to model a high level of professionalism and medical ethics at all times.  Taking time to listen to their students, explain content in different ways, and assist them through supportive guidance are aspects of this career that cannot be over looked.

Nurse educators who are interested in teaching associate or baccalaureate programs are usually prepared at the master’s level.  However, a doctorate degree is required for most full-time teaching positions, especially to teach within the higher levels of academia.  Completing a post-Mater’s certificate in education is offered as a complement to clinical expertise when choosing to become faculty at a college or university.

Nurse educators are the experts in their field because of the level of knowledge and experience they have.  Being trained at this level can also mean committing to scholarly work or research in order to complete a higher degree.  Being directly involved in a study gives nurses a valuable experience. If you have the money saved up for college you won’t have to worry about paying for school. Unfortunately, unless you’re independently wealthy you will probably not have immediate access to the funds necessary to earn your degree. That means you’ll either have to work your way through school, be awarded a grant or need-based financial aid, borrow the money, or most likely get through to graduation using some combination of these methods. Nursing programs are not cheap—the price can vary anywhere from $100 to $500 per credit hour.

Length of Program

Although most nursing programs require you to attend at least one full year of classes, many take longer. You may be able to get into an accelerated class that will allow you to finish in less than a year, but usually a full year is a minimum, so you should be prepared and have the finances available to go that long without bringing in a paycheck. It is important to know how much will be needed to pay for tuition and fees once the semester starts. A Pell Grant calculator can help estimate the amount of aid a student can expect to receive from a Pell Grant. Many websites offer these calculators, but the official application can be found at the official Department of Education website.

The FAFSA, or Free Application for Federal Student Aid, will need to be completed in order to apply for a Pell Grant. The FAFSA can be completed online at fafsa.ed.gov. Once the FAFSA is completed, the Department of Education will send the Student Aid Report (SAR), which will explain whether the student is eligible to receive a Pell Grant. The government will assess the family’s ability to pay and also evaluate the student’s grades; preference is given to better-performing students.

To use a Pell Grant calculator, the student will need the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) from the SAR and the expected Cost of Attendance (COA), or amount of tuition, room, and board for the college or university being attended. The EFC is a percentage of the family’s income based on the amount of dependents and the number of them attending college in the same year. If the student would like to try to estimate the EFC prior to sending in the FAFSA, the FAFSA4caster at fafsa.ed.gov will help to estimate the EFC and the expected amount of financial aid.

While a Pell Grant will usually not be able to cover all of the necessary costs, it is free money toward financing a college education, and the Pell Grant calculator will help the student estimate the financial aid that can be expected.

Students will be eligible to participate in online CNA programs if they are able to meet all of the following requirements:

• Be 18 years of age or older
• Be able to sit for written exams
• Have no record of prior felonies
• Have Internet access so as to be able to download the course
• Be reasonably fluent in speaking, writing and comprehending English

On top of the basic requirements, there are 16 hours of on-site training that must be undertaken at a local medical facility, such as a health clinic or a hospital. This is a mandatory requirement, so each student should investigate local health facilities in order to decide which one might be available to help them fulfill the training that they will need.

Whenever students decide to take CNA classes online, they must be certain of their ability to meet all of the requirements listed above.
