What are the Requirements for a Private Cloud?

Once the decision has been made to transfer IT resources to a private cloud, an assessment needs to be made of your company’s requirements. A private cloud is usually established with a cloud-computing company who allocates your company a part of their cloud area in their already functioning cloud. They become your cloud computing provider. In order for your company to come to a proper decision concerning the possible movement of IT resources, a project team composed of members from every department in your company should make an assessment of the space, software, and storage required. This information is essential for a successful transition. Six of the steps that need to be taken into consideration are listed below:

• Does your company have the in-house personnel capable of assessing the capacity needed by an external data center for a managed cloud or do the internal human resources within your company have the competence to manage the cloud themselves?
• What is the current vision of your company? Where you headed and what are are the predicted IT needs and costs for the future? How does your company’s computer platform look now versus a computer platform in a private cloud? Simply asked, is the private cloud space allocated to your company adaptable to your company’s software demands?
• If your company decides to let the external data center control and maintenance your cloud services, the processor speed will be determined by the external provider. Your main priority is to determine the software and the speed needed for user accessibility.
• Cloud computing is virtualization being expanded to its maximum. You have a front end and a back end. The front end is what your users will use, the mouse, the monitor, the keyboard and the application software to sign in to the cloud. However, the back end determines who communicates with whom through protocols. These protocols are established through specifically designed middleware software. The type of middleware software chosen will determine the success of your company’s use of your servers’ virtualization in your private cloud.
• Assess the company’s need for SAN or Storage Area Network. If this type of storage network is needed, who needs it? One of the most attractive advantages of moving the company’s business to a private cloud is that the responsibility of backups and storage shift to the cloud-computing provider. Is it necessary to maintain separate storage files in a separate storage area network for some individuals or will the use of a private cloud take care of this demand?
• Finally, the use of a private cloud eliminates the need for an intensive IT recovery plan in your company. That responsibility belongs to your cloud-computing provider who has to provide you with a cloud disaster recovery plan. Regardless of whether your cloud provider has an offsite backup location or a SAN-to-SAN replication of your data, it is their responsibility to insure that all of your data can be restored without any loss.

Whether a file is deleted, the hard drive is formatted or the disk becomes corrupted it should still be possible to find the original data clusters that made up your file in the memory. This applies to internal hard drives, zip disk, flash USB drives and any other type of storage media.

Files are stored to memory as several data clusters and the file is indexed in the file allocation table (a system file) along with pointers to where the data clusters are located in memory.

File deletion only alters the FAT so that your documents are no longer displayed in the directory. Formatting a drive clears down the FAT file of document indexes but the data clusters still exist and can be found. Many people format a drive when fixing computers (i.e. to reinstall the operating system) which is fine, but formatting offers no data protection if you intend passing on the PC to someone else.

Once you download data recovery freeware, such as Recuva or Photorec, you simply select the drive/partition that you want it to scan. The program looks for data clusters that can be formed into files. The FAT can be used to find deleted files.

All these programs work this same way and simply display back a list of found files that you can clone to a new directory location. Importantly the programs only copy the data clusters, rather than cut/paste them to a new location, as removing them could cause damage.

If you are attempting to recover lost data from something other than a FAT32 based file system (e.g. a Zip disk) then you need to pick data recovery software specifically for that file system format.

If you need to recover lost data then you need to act fast before the lost files are overwritten and make sure to use the right applications for the file system you wish to scan.

When renting a projector screen, check to ensure that it is in good condition because you do not want to be charged for any damage to the screen when you try to return it.  Before leaving the store make sure you check the screen thoroughly with an employee to make sure it does not have any damage.

It is important you know the size of projector screen you need to rent.  This will be determined by the size of the area where you plan to use the screen.  It will also be determined by the distance you decide to place the chairs away from the screen.  Choosing the right screen size and seating distance will help enhance the image when watching the movie.

The screen material is important because you do not want a screen that will give off glare.  Using a screen without a black border will help prevent light retracting.  Also important is the lighting in the area you plan to use the screen.  Make sure there is adequate light in the proper location because you do not want the glare from the lights to interfere with the images on the screen.

Before going out to rent your outdoor projector screen, check the projector you plan to use to make sure it will work with the screen.  You should have all this information readily available so you can get help from the customer service person from whom you will be renting the screen.

There are different types of projector screens available such as: retractable screens, inflatable screens, electric screens, and pull down screens. Decide which one you think is right for you before you rent your projector screen, then enjoy watching outdoor movies all summer long.

You could always just cancel your cable and depend on online sources to watch your shows.  But then your TV would just sit there, collecting dust. And your friends and family can’t really gather around your laptop. So this could end up as a money waster in and of itself, especially if you have an LCD TV. It would be a shame to just have it sitting there, or to sell it for a lot less than what you paid for it. A great alternative is to use a Mac Mini instead.

But considering everything you can do with it, including hooking it up to your LCD TV so that you can use it to watch TV, it’s well-worth the price tag.  And since you will be saving on your monthly cable bill once you cancel that cable, your Mac Mini will pay itself off in just a few months.

Another great thing about using your Mac Mini to watch TV is that you are no longer a slave to a schedule. Sure, with cable there’s always the option of using TiVo, but what happens if it doesn’t record your shows?  Or if you accidentally record the wrong show? You’re left scrambling to find out if it’s on at a different time. Or you end up at your desk, watching it on your computer. But since you have full internet access with your Mac Mini, you’ll be able to watch your favorite TV shows when YOU want to, whether you purchase them through iTunes or watch them directly from the Internet.  You’ll be amazed how freeing it is to be able to watch what you want when you want on your TV.

And getting things set up is so easy! Most new TVs will have a DVI connector, so it’s just a matter of hooking that up to your Mac Mini. The rest is intuitive. Like plugging in hardware to your Mac, the Mac Mini will register that it’s been hooked up to your TV and you’ll be pretty much ready to go. If your TV is an older model and doesn’t have DVI, then you’ll just have to buy a DVI to S-video adapter. At $20, it’s a steal.

The Mac Mini is so compact that finding a spot for it under your TV or in your multimedia storage area won’t be a problem.  It also includes a DVD player and CD burner, so it will also replace some of your larger multi-media players, saving your additional space.

With all the options for TV watching, cable is fast becoming the “old school” method of getting your TV fix. While there are several different alternatives, pairing your LCD TV with a Mac Mini is the most robust option.  Easy to set up, and offering multitasking since it is also a full computer, it will pay for itself in no time at all. As busy as your life gets, being able to watch TV whenever you want definitely fits into your schedule. And it is much better that trying to arrange your life around the cable schedule.
