Toddler backpacks are something I never considered for my child until recently. I never had one growing up, so why should it have ever crossed my mind? After coming across a few kids who owned one and seeing some cool websites about them on the Internet, I decided to look further into the subject. I felt like a pros and cons list was in order to see if my toddler needed a backpack or not.

There are many pros for toddler backpacks. The main reason for getting my child a backpack was because of how much they would love it. The backpack became like a sort of toy to him. He was able to take it to his friends’ houses and everywhere else that he went.  Another pro is how much easier it made my life. Before I got the pack, gathering all my child’s belongings that he wanted to take on the road with him was such a hassle. Now, I can just gather up all the toys and snacks and whatever else he wants to bring, throw them in the backpack, and off we go. The last pro I had was the price of the backpack. For around $20, I was able to get my child a backpack that he loves and takes with him everywhere.

Now, there are a couple of cons to add as well. This might not always happen, but if your kid’s friends don’t have their own toddler backpacks, some jealousy might arise, even for kids of a young age. Another con is the possibility that they might only use the backpack for a couple of years. If you get your child a cute animal backpack like I did, they are not going to want to take that same pack to school when they are old enough to go. The life span of the backpack might be shortened. The last con I could think of was the durability. These packs are not made to carry heavy objects, and might rip or tear after long periods of use.
