Why You Should Go Low-Carb, Not Low-Fat

Understanding your body’s daily needs is the best way to live a healthy lifestyle. We all know that too many sweets, candies, chips, and fast food items are not good for us, and once you take that into practice, you will be well on your way to looking and feeling your best. And by keeping in mind your body’s nutritional needs, you will naturally have a healthy diet that will keep you at your best weight.

Every day your body should be given vitamins, minerals, protein, healthy carbohydrates like fiber, good fats that are monounsaturated or polyunsaturated, and of course, water. Vitamins and minerals are necessary to keep you looking good and feeling well, protein is important for energy, fats keep your body temperature regulated and your immune system strong, and water is needed to keep all your organ systems functioning well. Only a small amount of carbohydrates is needed to keep your brain active and your digestive system healthy, so a good way to get all your daily nutrient needs and get rid of excess weight is to find out how many carbs per day to lose weight.

You may think that in order to lose weight and get healthy, a low-fat diet would do the trick, but actually fat is more important to the body than carbohydrates. Aside from regulating body temperature and strengthening your immune system, healthy fats keep you mentally sharp, fight fatigue, and even help you lose weight. The good fats are omega 3, monounsaturated, and polyunsaturated; and good sources of these are tofu, nuts, and avocados; healthy oils like canola, olive, corn and soybean; and fish like salmon, tuna, sardines and trout. To get a healthy diet, never erase the healthy fats from your diet, just the unhealthy trans fat and saturated fat. Eating good fats also fills your stomach up, so you feel full quicker and longer, thereby helping you lose weight and get healthy.
